Was the city 100- and 220-yard dash champion in the early 1940s while at Detroit Northern High School. His best high school clocking in the 100-yard dash was 9.7 seconds, and at the time the world record was 9.3 seconds. Big Ten 60-yard dash indoor champion while at University of Michigan. Inducted 2008
